Free Access to Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews

Wiley Online Library is now offering complimentary access to their new Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews, journals which focus on high-profile research areas within a variety of traditional disciplines.  Content is reviewed and selected by an "internationally renowned Editorial Board, ensuring that the highest scientific and presentational standards are maintained."   Eight titles have been launched so far, with future publications coming in 2012.  Complimentary access is limited to two years.   The following Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews titles are currently available via the TMC Library's electronic journals portal at: http://ca3cx5qj7w.search.serialssolutions.com/

Featured Website: TED.com

TED’s motto is "Ideas Worth Spreading." TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) posts free videos of short, idea-packed talks given at their annual conferences. Creative Commons licensing allows free downloading and re-use. "The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes)." Speakers include world-renowned scientists, musicians, and other artists and innovators.  An 18-minute TED Talk is a fun educational, and thought provoking way to spend a few minutes  when you need a break.

New Version WISER 4.4

A new version of WISER (Wireless Information System for Emergency Responders) is now available at the National Library of Medicine WISER website: http://wiser.nlm.nih.gov/whats_new_4_4.html

Highlights of this version include:

New interactive Chemical Reactivity capability

19 new substances introduced, including Crude Oil and oil spill dispersants like Corexit 9500 and Corexit 9527

PubMed Mobile Beta

PubMed Mobile Beta, is a simplified mobile-friendly web interface that includes the same basic search functionality and content as Standard PubMed but does not include the following features: Limits, Advanced Search, MyNCBI, Clipboard or the LinkOut/Outside tool. To use any of these features as well as other PubMed features, you will need to display your retrieval in Standard PubMed.

You can filter results by using the links to Free-full text or Review in the results page. If the article is available free of charge from the publisher, a link to the PDF version should display in the mobile mode. A link to Standard PubMed is available at the bottom of all PubMed Mobile pages.

RefWorks is a web-based citation management program that allows you to organize references in one convenient location, and also format your paper and bibliography. RefWorks contains several hundred citation output styles such as APA and AMA, in addition to individual journal submission formats. This class will teach you to set up an account, import citations, build your bibliography and format your paper. *It is highly recommended that participants in this class have experience searching PubMed or other databases, and using Microsoft Word.
