Methods Navigator

Methods Navigator is being discontinued by the publisher, effective December 31st. We certainly regret any inconvenience to our users that may be caused by losing this database. The TMC Library maintains access to several modules of Current Protocols- Immunology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience and Protein Science.

EBSCO Journal Content

The problem noted earlier with EBSCO databases, in which journal issues were not displaying, has been fixed by the publisher.

EBSCO Journal Content

Full-text journal article collections from EBSCO are experiencing a problem being seen by all EBSCO customers, a known issue that the company is working to resolve. When arriving at the website of an EBSCO journal collection from the Journals A-Z list, users may be surprised to find that only a single year and a single issue from that year will display in the right-hand sidebar.

Entering a search containing only the journal's title, however, will show that, as expected, many more articles are available within that title. Enter the journal title in quotes, preceded by the tag JN, to view a results list of all articles.

If you first arrive at the "Publication Details" page for a journal in EBSCO, clicking "Search within this publication" will retrieve a normal search screen. From there, "AND"ing in your search terms will elicit normal results. Applying the "Full Text" limit along with your desired date range narrows results appropriately, and of course, the more specific the search terms themselves are, the more manageable the results list. Nothing the user can do at this time, however, will result in a display of all available years and issues in the right sidebar. EBSCO is dealing with this aberration as high priority and will have it fixed as soon as possible.

ACP Smart Medicine

ACP's PIER with AHFS DI Essentials is transforming smoothly into the new ACP Smart Medicine (still, for us, including AHFS DI Essentials.) Users may notice some mostly visual enhancements to the interface, but the product remains basically the same reliable companion to the physician or physician-in-training-- still found in Stat!Ref and accessible on mobile devices.

For those unfamiliar with it, ACP's PIER/ACP Smart Medicine is a streamlined decision-support, point-of-care tool for physicians and other healthcare professionals. Modules are organized by topic:
• Diseases
• Screening and Prevention
• Complementary and Alternative Medicine
• Ethical and Legal Issues
• Procedures

The topics themselves open up into further categories that present quick and easy access to just the information you need. Evidence-based care is the focus; levels and criteria for evidence are clearly explained in a Key, and content is labeled with evidence ratings and backed up by the appropriate references. The aim is to improve the quality of patient care while also avoiding unnecessary costs.
