Cell Reports - A New Open Access Journal

Please check out the new open-access journal from Cell Press, called Cell Reports.  Below is an overview from the publisher, Elsevier:

Cell Reports  will place particular emphasis on shorter, single-point stories, called Reports. This journal is a high-profile, open-access place to publish intriguing, cutting-edge material that describes one or two key findings.  These Reports are not meant for preliminary findings that are not well supported by the data, but they should represent a significant advance in the field that will drive further research and perhaps even raise more questions than they answer.

CellReports includes a section for Resources, which describe significant technical advances and/or major informational data sets.
Open access means that readers will have immediate and unrestricted access to all papers published in Cell Reports. Authors will retain full copyright for their articles and can choose to publish their work in Cell Reports under Creative Commons licenses.

To access Cell Reports, follow the link: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/22111247/1/1

Improvements to PubMed - Adding Favorite Citations to MyNCBI Collections

Have you searched PubMed lately? Have you noticed that PubMed added some enhancements to the database?

The PubMed Abstracts now includes a "Save Items" portlet that provides users with an easy way to add items to MyNCBI Collections when you click on the "Favorite" button.  The "Save Items" portlet also includes a drop-down menu that allows you to display a list of all collections in your account when you are signed into MyNCBI. You can add "Favorite" citations to an existing collection or create a new one; if you don't choose a particular collection a Favorites collection will be created by the system.

For detailed instructions on using and creating Collections with the "Favorite" button, check the NLM Technical Bulletin at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/ma12/ma12_pm_favorites.html#fig1

Now we want to find new and better ways to make the most of these data to speed discovery, innovation and improvements in the nation’s health and economy," said NIH Director Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Collins is among agency leaders speaking in support of the initiative at the launch event.
