PubMed Central Is Now PMC

PubMed Central a free public digital repository of full-text biomedical and life sciences journal literature provided and maintained  by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the National Library of Medicine has officially shortened its name to PMC to avoid confusion with PubMed.

Facts about PMC

PMC Free Access

As an archive, PMC is designed to provide permanent access to all of deposited  content. Please note that free access does not mean that there is no copyright protection. As described in PMC copyright page, publishers and individual authors continue to hold copyright on the material in PMC and users must abide by the terms defined by the copyright holder.

How are journal articles Provided to PMC?

PMC is not a publisher and does not publish journal articles itself.

Final versions of articles are contributed to PMC by participating publishers, and PMC is also the designated repository of manuscripts accepted for publication and submitted by authors to PMC in  compliance with the Public Access Policy mandated by NIH and other research funding agencies.
