Open Access Journal Collections On the Rise



Researchers, faculty and students who wish to publish in open access (OA) journals should read a recent post in The Imaginary Journal of Poetic Economics for valuable information on the growth of OA journal collections.  This article highlights collections such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), PubMed Central, HighWire Press and many others.  DOAJ—celebrating 10 years of support for scholarly publishing--has a new feature that allows researchers to browse their journals, according to publication charges.  Below is a summary of stats:

Directory of Open Access Journals
9,944 journals. Growth this quarter: 185 journals (2 per day)
121 countries. Growth this quarter: 1 country.
5,597 journals searchable at article level. Growth this quarter: 660 journals (7 per day).
1,517,338 articles searchable at article level. Growth this quarter: 386,957 articles (over 4,000 per day). 34% growth this quarter.  Below is a summary on the number of DOAJ journals with and without article processing charges:
