The Art of the Book: rare medical treasures from the TMC Library archives

Tucked safely away in a private, locked room in the McGovern Rare Book Room at the TMC Library, are some beautiful jewels of medical books – some dating
back to the 14th century. These incredible labors of love painstakingly printed and many annotated, trace the practice and knowledge of medicine back to
the Renaissance. Many are beautifully done, and passed down through the centuries from practitioner to practitioner.

If you love books, and appreciate the history they tell, come hear Howard bring these volumes to life and see them displayed for a rare public viewing.

Howard Rootenberg is an internationally known specialist in rare books and manuscripts in the fields of science, medicine, technology and natural history. B & L Rootenberg Rare Books is located in Los Angeles, California, not far from UCLA and the Getty Museum.

In September, Howard spent several very happy days poking around in the McGovern Rare Books Room evaluating our collection. Turns out, we had some very valuable and rare items that were quite unique.

See you there!
