BurnMed an iPhone App for Burn Victims

What is BurnMed?


The Burn Medical Education app BurnMed was developed by Dr. Stephen Milner, Director of the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, in collaboration with Harry Goldberg, Director of Academic Computing at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine  in response to a mass casualty event in Kenya where a gas tanker exploded. The app is designed to teach students as well as lay people how to stabilize a victim within the first eight hours after a burn.

The user draws the burned areas onto a 3-D anatomic figure. The app then uses this diagram to calculate the total body surface area burned, calculates fluid  resuscitation and provides treatment guidelines summarizing essential steps in early management.  

BurnMed uses a combination of video, photos and text to provide a quick but thorough overview of how to handle burn victims
