BurnMed an iPhone App for Burn Victims

What is BurnMed?


The Burn Medical Education app BurnMed was developed by Dr. Stephen Milner, Director of the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, in collaboration with Harry Goldberg, Director of Academic Computing at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine  in response to a mass casualty event in Kenya where a gas tanker exploded. The app is designed to teach students as well as lay people how to stabilize a victim within the first eight hours after a burn.

The user draws the burned areas onto a 3-D anatomic figure. The app then uses this diagram to calculate the total body surface area burned, calculates fluid  resuscitation and provides treatment guidelines summarizing essential steps in early management.  

BurnMed uses a combination of video, photos and text to provide a quick but thorough overview of how to handle burn victims

New Tuesday Tech Lunch Series at The TMC Library


Tuesday Tech Lunch is a series of informal monthly classes that will be offered on Tuesdays at lunch time to promote the library's information resources.

Stop by the library on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 12:00 - 1:00  to attend a class on Mobile Resources. The class includes a walk-through of the download process for several popular subscription-based apps, as well as app demos.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops, Notebooks or other mobile devices to the class.

New Mobile Library Guide

 
Do you own an iPhone, iPad or another mobile device?  

Do you want to find out what  mobile library resources are available to download in your devices?

The new TMC Library Mobile Resources Guide includes tutorials and videos on using Dynamed, Scopus and Science Direct as well as information on how to download medical apps into your mobile device.

The section Mobile Access for Journals by Device, lists TMC Library journal subscriptions that can be accessed using a mobile device via an app or a website.

1Password: an app that will help you remember your passwords. The app is for Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android.
 
Adobe Reader: read and share PDF documents with this app, including portfolios and password-protected PDF documents. Works with Android & Apple iOS.

Library Mobile Applications

Do you need to do research on a specific disease while seeing patients at the hospital? Are you doing rounds and need detailed drug information right away?  Do you need access to your RefWorks bibliography right away? Do you know you can access some of the Library’s databases on your iPhone, iPad, Blackberry or Android mobile device?

The TMC Library has created a web page of instructions for websites and applications of freely available resources and library’s database subscriptions. The library subscriptions will allow access to full-text resources.

CDC Introduces Mobile iPad Application

Get fast and easy access to health information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) using your iPad. The CDC iPad application has been designed as a way for users to access health information at their fingertips. The application features access to important health news, popular journal information, timely updates, and access to social media outlets. Updates coinciding with important health concerns and events throughout the year provide increased awareness and information about these health topics. The iPad application gives an increasingly mobile public 24/7 access to important health information that people can use to protect their lives and loved ones.

The Disaster Information Management Research Center (DIMRC)  recently launched a new web page titled Disaster Apps and Mobile Optimized Web Pages
